biography

John Trained at Winchester and Harrow schools of art before beginning his career as an illustrator working in television, publishing, theatrical productions and advertising. His work has always been diverse, incorporating both commercial illustration and painting and his ability to adapt his style to a brief has enabled him to secure a wide range of commissions, both here in the UK and internationally.

Paintings and Drawings

Paintings and drawings in oil, pastel, watercolour and charcoal, form a major part of John’s work, and are sold through galleries and by
private commission. In his pastel paintings, John uses the strong non-reflective colours and direct 'feel' the medium offers to create large, vibrant colourful images that seek to capture a sense of light and movement.

Limited and open edition prints of his paintings made him one of Buckingham Fine Art’s most successful figurative artists in the 90’s. His roots as an illustrator are evident in his strong drawing, composition and a sharp eye for detail. These provide the framework for his lively figure drawings, which explore the quirks of eccentricity that make people endlessly fascinating. Working on paper, in a variety of mediums, most of his characters are created from imagination, aided by observation and a well trained visual memory.
